Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite: A Dial Cut From a Meteorite

Reference 304.30.43.52.01.001 does something unusual even by Speedmaster standards — the dial is cut from genuine meteorite, so the Widmanstätten pattern running across its face is a crystalline structure that formed over millions of years inside the core of an asteroid. No two dials are alike, which makes each example genuinely one of one.

Then there is the moonphase display itself. Omega prints it photorealistically at extremely high resolution, and at roughly 3x magnification you can pick out the Apollo 11 landing site — including a small dark mark representing Neil Armstrong's footprint. It is the kind of detail that sounds like marketing until you see it under a loupe.

The Caliber 9904

Inside is the Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 9904, a manual-winding chronograph with a moonphase complication accurate to one day in roughly ten years. It carries the Co-Axial escapement, a silicon balance spring, and METAS Master Chronometer certification to 15,000 gauss. Power reserve is approximately 60 hours. The column-wheel chronograph gives the pushers a crisp, deliberate action that a cam-actuated movement cannot match.

Wearing It

At 43mm in steel with a ceramic bezel, this is a larger watch than the standard Moonwatch and it is meant to be. The meteorite dial and the moonphase aperture need the real estate. The sapphire caseback displays the movement's Arabesque Côtes de Genève finishing.
