The Sky-Dweller is Rolex's answer to a specific question: how do you build an annual calendar and a second time zone into a watch that a traveller can operate without a manual? The answer, introduced in 2012 and refined in reference 336934, is the Ring Command bezel — you rotate the fluted bezel to select what you want to set, then use the crown. Date, month, local time, and reference time all adjust through the same two controls.

This example is the white Rolesor configuration: an Oystersteel case and bracelet with a white gold fluted bezel. It is the combination that reads most like a classic Rolex while hiding the most complexity underneath.

How the Complications Work

The annual calendar is displayed through Rolex's Saros system: twelve small apertures around the dial, one per month, with the current month marked in red. The watch knows the length of every month except February, so it needs correcting just once a year. The second time zone is shown on a rotating 24-hour disc at the centre of the dial, with local time on the conventional hands.

Driving all of this is the caliber 9002, a Superlative Chronometer movement with a Parachrom hairspring, Chronergy escapement, and roughly 72 hours of reserve — enough to leave it off from Friday evening through Monday morning and find it still running on time.
