2012
An unusual launch
The Sky-Dweller arrives in precious metal only, with caliber 9001 — at the time the most complex movement Rolex had ever produced, with around 380 components.

Ring Command
The rotating bezel becomes the interface for setting the watch, removing pushers and correctors entirely. It remains unique to this model and the Yacht-Master II.
2017
Steel at last
Reference 326934 brings the Sky-Dweller to Rolesor, dropping the entry price substantially and transforming demand overnight.
2020
Fresh dials
New dial colours and configurations broaden a line that had been fairly conservative, including the intense white and slate options.
2023
Caliber 9002
Reference 336934 updates the movement and adds the Jubilee bracelet option, softening a watch that had always read quite formal.

Before You Buy a Sky-Dweller
Learn the Ring Command before you judge it
The bezel selects what the crown adjusts. It is genuinely intuitive once shown and confusing if not. Ask for a demonstration rather than assuming it is fiddly.
The annual calendar needs one correction a year
It handles 30 and 31 day months automatically but not February. If a watch has been sitting, expect the date to be out — that is normal, not a fault.
Check the month apertures
The twelve small windows around the dial edge indicate the month. Verify the correct one is filled and that it advances properly, because repairs here are movement-level.
It wears larger than 42 mm suggests
The fluted bezel and thick case make it substantial. Anyone used to a 40 mm sport Rolex should try one on before committing.
Full sets matter on a complication
Documentation and service history carry more weight here than on a time-and-date Rolex, because the movement is more expensive to put right.

What is an annual calendar?+
It tracks month lengths automatically for every month except February, so it needs correcting once a year on 1 March rather than five times a year like a simple date watch.
How does the bezel setting work?+
Rotating the Ring Command bezel selects which function the crown will adjust — date, local time, or reference time. It replaces the pushers and correctors most calendar watches require.
Is steel or gold the better buy?+
Rolesor references trade most actively and are easiest to resell. Solid gold versions often sit closer to their steel siblings than their retail difference suggests, which can be an opportunity.
What should I budget?+
